Wuthering Waves Pity System Explained

Every number behind the Convene system — soft pity, hard pity, rates and carry-over — so you always know exactly where you stand.

What is pity in Wuthering Waves?

Pity is the game's built-in bad-luck protection. Every time you Convene (pull) without getting a 5★, your pity counter increases. At a certain point the game stops relying on luck and hands you a 5★ outright. In Wuthering Waves that hard guarantee arrives on pull 80.

The base 5★ rate is 0.8% per pull. That means an average player would need roughly 125 pulls per 5★ without pity — the pity system pulls that average down dramatically.

Soft pity: the rate starts climbing at pull 66

From pull 66 onward, the 5★ rate stops being flat. Community data — thousands of recorded pulls across banner history — shows the rate increases by roughly 6% per pull between pulls 66 and 79:

Pull number5★ rate this pull
1 – 650.8%
66≈ 6.8%
70≈ 30.8%
75≈ 60.8%
79≈ 84.8%
80100% — guaranteed

This is why "pity starts at 80" is only half the story. The soft pity window (66–80) is where most 5★ actually drop — statistically, the average 5★ lands around pull 70–72 for players who reach the soft region.

Hard pity by banner type

BannerHard pitySoft pity50/50?
Character Event Convene8066Yes
Weapon Event Convene8066No — featured guaranteed
Standard (Tidal Chorus)8066No featured unit
Novice (Beginner's Choice)8066No — you pick the 5★

The weapon banner is famously generous: unlike Genshin-style weapon banners, every 5★ weapon you pull on a Wuthering Waves weapon event banner is the featured weapon. There is no 50/50 against the standard weapon pool.

Does pity carry over between banners?

Character event banners: yes. Your pity counter and your 50/50 guarantee state carry over between character event banners. If you pulled 60 times on one character banner and it ends, the new character banner starts with you 60 pulls into pity.

Weapon event banners: yes. The same carry-over applies between weapon event banners.

Standard and Novice banners: these are permanent, so carry-over is a non-issue.

Pity carries over within the same banner family only. Character banner pity does not transfer to the weapon banner, and vice versa.

4★ guarantee

Every 10 pulls guarantee at least one 4★ or higher. When you pull a 4★, the 4★ has a 50/50 chance to be one of the rate-up 4★ units; if you lose that roll, the next 4★ is guaranteed to be a rate-up 4★.

How many Astrite is a full pity?

One pull costs 160 Astrite (1 Lustrous Tide). A full hard-pity cycle costs 12,800 Astrite (80 × 160). A worst-case 50/50 guarantee — losing the 50/50 then hitting hard pity again — costs up to 25,600 Astrite (160 pulls). See what you can realistically earn with the monthly Astrite calculator.
